I’ve lived in Manhattan Beach for more than 35 years. I’m a fourth-generation Californian, and this is where I raised my three sons. Kai is working now, and Caden and Jett are both in college. I served as Board President for Swim and Dive at Mira Costa High School and spent years coaching youth sports. That means I’ve spent a lot of Saturdays on the same pool decks, courts, and fields as the families I now help buy and sell homes. Many of my clients started out as fellow parents in the stands.
HOW I GOT HERE
I earned my degree in Business Marketing and Finance at Cal State Long Beach. After that, I spent more than 25 years in executive sales and marketing in the fashion and action sports industries. That’s where I learned how to launch a product, read a market, and negotiate with people who don’t like to lose. Working in action sports also kept me close to the beach culture that defines the South Bay.
In 2015, I brought that experience to real estate. In 2018, I became a founding member of Compass South Bay and started The John Bathurst Group. Since then, I’ve represented more than $180 million in sales, been ranked in the top 1.5% of agents nationally (RealTrends Verified, 2026), and earned more than 125 five-star reviews. I’m proud of those numbers. I’m prouder that most of my business now comes from past clients and the people they send my way.
